Docents (Feb - Dec) Trained gallery guides, called Docents (greek word for "guide"), welcome visitors to the Arts Center and tell about the opportunites (classes, workshops, exhibits, special events) that the SAC has to offer. No prior art knowledge is needed. Once trained, Docents volunteer for at least one 4- hour shift (1-5pm) per month. (May be divided into two 2-hour shifts)

Gallery on the Go This program is the SAC’s outreach art appreciation program for elementary students in Shiawassee County. Once trained, GOG volunteers take a print by a famous artist to a classroom and talk to the students about the artist, his/her style, and techniques. GOG volunteers commit to at least one classroom session (20-30 minutes) once a month. This program is an excellent way to learn about art yourself while teaching it to children. No prior art knowledge is needed.

Art in the Park This is the SAC’s annual event that takes place during the Owosso Curwood Festival the first full weekend in June. Art in the Park is comprised of activities for children, face painting, funny photos, sales of popcorn, pop, candy, book signings by Michigan authors, and other events. Volunteers are needed for planning, organizing, set up/take down, and assisting during the activities (2-hour shifts).

Occasional Volunteers Volunteers are often needed to help with touch up painting, minor carpentry, light maintenance, and general improvements to the SAC. Volunteers who possess a love of gardening are needed to keep the SAC looking fresh. Also, volunteers are needed to label and sort mailings and to help with our special events including, Annual Garage Sale, High School Scholarship Show, Annual Juried Competition, and the Annual Holiday Show.
