Robin has trained in the art of dance for more than 30 years, beginning in Michigan and continuing in New York and Chicago. At the age of 14, she started her professional career-performing, studying and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. She has studied with Jazz and Tap Masters, including Joe Tremaine, Frank Hatchett, Joel Hall, Gus Giordano, Henry La Tang, Jimmy Payne, Buster Brown and Savion Glover.
Through Robin’s training with Masters of many styles, she has become a choreographer with an eclectic, unique and exciting style all her own. She has also taught Master classes in Zurich, Switzerland, Venice, Bologna and Rome, Italy, and throughout the Midwestern United States. An inspiring teacher, Robin is dedicated to teaching her students about life through her choreography and the art of dance. Robin was certified with Dance Masters and Dance Educators of America.
At the age of 16, Robin began instructing students. She opened Fisher Dance Center in 1987. Over nearly 30 years, her students have continued to achieve excellence. Some of their accomplishments include scholarships to prominent universities and the best dance schools in the United States, winning top dance competitions and holding positions in local Chicago dance companies and on Broadway.
In 1993, Robin founded The Dance Foundation, an Illinois not-for-profit organization. The Dance Foundation is dedicated to educating and enriching the lives of financially challenged children in the world of dance, with an emphasis on academic excellence.
In 2008, Robin celebrated her 20th anniversary with Fisher Dance Center. Also in 2008, Robin published her first book, “Perseverance of a Dream”, which was dedicated to the power of dreams-dreams that can become reality when you work hard, work with your eyes open and aspire to do your best. Robin is also a motivational speaker, during which she is able to reach out to students at colleges and other educational institutions.
Robin is a member of the Chicago Writers Association and continues to write stories for the stage.
In 2012, Robin and her dance company, The Dance Foundation Company Chicago, toured the beautiful country of Italy, performing an original story that she wrote and coordinated. The company was comprised of thirty students and professional dancers.
Robin’s original story, “New Beginnings”, was translated into Italian and performed throughout parts of Italy.
In 2013, Robin was presented with the prestigious International Award for Dance Teacher of the Year in New York City by Dance Magazine. As a teacher and motivator, Robin has inspired thousands of students to achieve success in their careers and lives.
In 2014, Robin returned to her roots in Michigan to be closer to her family. Robin continues to inspire students in Michigan and Chicago through her teachings and has written a cross-curricula program entitled “Empowerment Through Academics and the Performing Arts”. Robin is a current board member and instructor for the Shiawassee Arts Council and serves as an examiner for the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
