The 1st Annual Dancing with the Starz event, hosted by the Owosso Community Players and the Shiawassee Arts Center, was held Saturday April 24, 2010 at the Shiawassee Readiness Center in Corunna. A sold out crowd of 300 were entertained by nine local "starz" and their partners dancing a variety of styles including disco, softshoe, salsa, tango, waltz and more. The "Starz" and their partners, Jamie Brummel & Nick Frederick, Cindy Civille & Jake Remenec, Judge James Clatterbaugh & Marissa Johnson, Voula Erfourth & Eric Dexter, Mayor of Owosso Benjamin Frederick & Emily Smith, Heidi Frei & Nick Frederick, Steven Sobak & Kayla Stewart, Dr. Fred Van Alstine & Lisa Dexter and Matthew Van Epps & Kim Remenec, competed for the People's Choice Award and the Judges' Award. Judges for the event were Donna Bohaty Hall, Robert Hardy and Linden Martin.

Owosso physician, Dr. Fred Van Alstine was the People's Choice Award Winner. He and his partner danced a swing style number to a fast-paced "Sing, Sing, Sing." The Judge's Award was presented to Voula Erfourth, Director of Academic Advising and Learning Support at Baker College of Owosso. She and her partner danced a traditional Greek and funk style number to "Hasapiko." The dance instructor and choreographer for all the dancers and dances was Kim Remenec of Kim's Dance Dynamics in Owosso. Emcee for the evening was Owosso attorney, Tom Dignan.

OCP and SAC are both 501(c)3 non-profit arts organizations. Proceeds from this event benefit OCP's Rebuild Campaign and SAC's Education Fund.
