Corunna native and Kendall School of Art and Design student, Nathan Leslie has created a dynamic, 7-foot high sculptural sign for the SAC entitled Emerging from Nature. "I wanted it to look as though the figures were coming out of the ground", said Nathan. The steel sculpture was installed outside the Shiawassee Arts Center on May 19th with help from Nathan's uncles, Rodney and Russ Leslie. Nathan's design was chosen by a jury panel and the SAC Board of Directors from among eight submitted proposals. Alex Klinkowski, owner of the Sign Gallery, is designing the lettering and Steve Jurica, owner of Jurica Electric, is doing the lighting design. Nathan's mentor, friend, and fellow metal artist, Mark Haines, assisted Nathan with the finishing touches on the two impressive, dark figures that boldly hold the center sign. The figures are representative of Nathan's style, and are the largest ones he has ever created.
