It’s time to Cure Those Winter Blahs. The Shiawassee Arts Center’s annual Film Series kicks-off on Sunday, February 11, 4:30 pm with the critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated 2017 film “Loving Vincent”. Called “hypnotic and beguiling” by The New York Times, “Loving Vincent” is the world’s first feature-length, oil-painted animation film featuring 120 of Vincent van Gogh’s greatest paintings. The plot, drawn from the 800 letters written by the artist himself, leads the viewer to the significant people and events in the time prior to his unexpected death. Every painting in the 95-minute, PG-13 rated film has been lovingly re-created to come to life by 125 artists just as Van Gogh himself painted.
The Sunday showing of the film immediately follows the 2-4pm opening public reception of SAC’s first exhibition of 2018 featuring artists Tom Tomasek of Ovid, James Fagan of Okemos and members of the Michigan League of Handweavers. Refreshments are included in the $5/person suggested donation offering. The film will be shown again Monday, February 12, 1 pm (with complimentary popcorn) for a suggested donation of $3/person.
The Film Series continues every Monday, February 19 (Impressionists & Monet) and 26 (Degas) and March 5 (Van Gogh), at noon at the Arts Center. Visit www.shiawasseearts.org or call 989.723.8354 for more information
